Backstory/Analysis

Backstory:

The character that's telling the monologue is a normal highschool girl, probably a junior. Her and her best friend are probably 140 pounds, yet still think they need to lose more weight. She and her best friend, who is also a junior, want to get better at running, so they started to take pills. The pills were supposed to give them energy, and allow them to lose a few pounds to make running more enjoyable for them. These girls had no problem with their hair or their facial features. But, they were not happy with their figures, so they thought if the pills allowed them to lose weight, while still giving them energy for running, they would be good for them and do no harm. The pills were fine for a little while, and they worked. Both girls lost some weight. Finally, the main character stopped taking them because she thought she didn't need them anymore and was satisfied with the results in terms of her body and weight. However, her best friend increased the drug dose, because she got addicted. The best friend ended up having a heart attack at 16 years old. They had no idea they were doing drugs and that someone could die. Even though she knew about her best friend increasing her dose of the pills, the main character still didn't say anything to anyone to get help.

Character Analysis:

My character is probably a little insecure about herself. Her best friend probably is too, since they both took the weight loss pills. If they wanted to take the pills to lose weight, they must be insecure about their figure. They are clueless that they are taking pills that could kill them, so they think that everything is fine. This tells me that both characters involved in this monologue probably were not trouble makers, but they were most likely good students. But they weren't very smart when it came to putting things in their bodies. Both of the characters thought that what they were doing was fine. Which is partially true, except the main character's best friend should have known better than to increase the dose, so she was a little uninformed and maybe even ignorant if she ignored how to properly take the pills. This also tells me that both of their parents might not be around a lot. If they were there they probably would've gotten Missy to stop before it was too late. Both the main character and her best friend were pretty good students, they were insecure about their weight, and the main character's best friend was ignorant and not informed about the directions of the pills. Also, their parents were not around, so they didn't come from good homes that offered guidance, and could have been the cause for these bad decisions.

The main character is feeling guilty. She is feeling guilty throughout the monologue because her and her best friend probably stopped talking once the drug dose was increased. I think this because the main character never went to get help for Missy, and once she passed away, immediately took responsibility because she felt like she should've been there for her hurting friend.

The Caucasian Chalk Circle Review

For my first season at Cheshire Academy, I was apart of the stage crew of the fall play. The name of the play is The Caucasian Chalk Circle, written by Bertolt Brecht. I worked at all the shows November 9-11, 2017 in the Black Box Theater of Cheshire Academy. For our school's production of the play, Mr. Aronson directed and some of the main characters include Grusha, Simon, Azdak, Natella Abashwili, the Singer, and Michael. The plot of this show is told by the Singer, who doesn't actually sing. Grusha, a peasant servant of the royal Natella Abashwili, finds Michael Abashwili, who is the royal heir, in the midst of the war that her fioncé is fighting in. Michael is found alone and forgotten about. She takes him and flees the dangerous area as she intends to keep him safe. Over the course of the first act, Grusha tries to avoid running into Natella and her armed forces who are rapidly looking for the child. Grusha adopts the child, and finds ways to get him food and shelter. The ...
